Lorena Mijares takes a holistic, trauma-informed approach to therapy that integrates mind and body to support lasting change. She is an LPCC Associate, Supervised by Reee White, and an AMFT (Associate Marriage & Family Therapist), with strong training in clinical psychology, individual and systemic therapy, as well as mindfulness-based interventions, and somatic (body-based) practices.

Lorena supports clients navigating anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, life transitions, and relationship stress. She works with individuals, couples, and families, including attachment-based couples therapy, family therapy, and play therapy for children. In sessions, you’ll build practical coping tools while also exploring deeper patterns that shape emotions, relationships, and self-worth, including family-of-origin and generational influences.

Her style is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based care, with an emphasis on nervous system regulation and the mind-body connection, helping you feel safer in your body, clearer in your choices, and more connected in your relationships.

About

Our attachment-based play therapy sessions offer a warm, supportive space where children can communicate through the language that comes most naturally to them: play. We pay close attention to each child’s attachment needs and relational patterns, and we use play to help them feel safe, seen, and understood. Over time, children learn to recognize and name emotions, express themselves in healthy ways, and build coping skills that support regulation during big feelings now and in the future.

Just as important, we partner closely with parents and caregivers. You’ll receive practical coaching and tools you can use at home to strengthen connection, respond with confidence, and support lasting change. Our goal is not only for your child to develop resilience and healthy coping strategies, but for the whole family to feel more supported, more connected, and better equipped to thrive.

Our couples therapy is attachment-based and informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). In simple terms, this approach recognizes that the way we learned to connect, feel safe, and handle conflict often comes from our earliest relationships with caregivers. Those “attachment patterns” can show up later with the people we love most, especially in marriage, where stress can trigger cycles of pursuing, shutting down, blaming, or disconnecting.

In therapy, we help you slow down those repeating patterns and get to what’s really underneath the conflict, the softer emotions, needs, and fears that are often hidden below the surface. Over time, couples learn to communicate with more clarity and empathy, rebuild trust, and create a deeper sense of emotional safety. The goal is for conflict to become an opportunity for growth and repair, not a battlefield, so you can experience real intimacy and a stronger, more secure bond.

In individual therapy, we take a holistic and trauma-informed approach that looks beyond symptoms to understand root causes and the full context of your life. With a systemic lens, we explore how relationships, family-of-origin patterns, culture, stress, and life experiences shape what you’re feeling today. We also “invite the body into therapy,” recognizing that your nervous system and body sensations carry important information. The mind and body are in constant communication, and when we learn to listen to both, healing becomes more grounded and sustainable.

Our sessions offer a safe, supportive space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and patterns with compassion and clarity. We integrate practical tools for coping and regulation while also going deeper, especially through inner child work. We believe reconnecting with the parts of you that learned to survive early on is essential for building self-trust, healthier relationships, and real emotional freedom.
